Mustang sits on Canadian County’s clay-heavy prairie soil, and that soil is the single biggest factor behind most of the underground plumbing problems we see here. It expands when it absorbs moisture from spring rains and contracts during the dry summer heat, and it does this repeatedly year after year. 

Every shift puts stress on buried water lines and sewer pipes, gradually working joints loose, cracking older pipe materials, and creating the kind of slow-developing problems that don’t announce themselves until real damage has been done.

Mustang’s winter weather adds another layer. The city averages lows that drop well below freezing in January and February, and pipes that run through exterior walls, uninsulated crawl spaces, or garages are genuinely vulnerable when those temperatures hit. 

We see a consistent surge in burst pipe calls every winter from Mustang homeowners who didn’t realize how exposed their supply lines were until it was too late.

Then there is the hard water situation. Canadian County water supply carries elevated mineral content that builds up steadily inside pipes, water heater tanks, and fixture aerators over time. 

It reduces water pressure gradually, forces water heaters to work harder than they should, and quietly shortens the lifespan of appliances that are not cheap to replace. 

Most Mustang homeowners don’t connect these dots until a water heater fails years earlier than expected.

And in Mustang’s older neighborhoods, many homes were built with cast iron or clay sewer lines that have now been in the ground for forty or fifty years.
